Our dream was to purchase a home with a small amount of acreage to raise our kids in and make their forever home. In February 2019, after looking for six months, we found a 1200 square foot home on five acres. We purchased the home from a real estate investor after viewing it the day it was listed (there was a shortage of homes in our price range for the area we wanted to be in). The house passed inspection with just a few minor repairs needing to be made.
March 2019, not even one week after closing, the first problems began to appear. Water had leaked under the bathtub and upon opening the access panel we could see the dirt had shifted. We paid for a plumber three times that first month of living there. First, the drain on the bathtub had never been tightened down to the bathtub. Next, the toilet backed up into the shower and had to be snaked. Lastly, it backed up once more and the plumber found large chunks of porcelain had been shoved down the pipes.
Soon after, a pipe that was shortcut through the ceiling burst and the ceiling in the hallway caved in. This soaked and ruined the floors in the main area of the house.
Due to the condition of the kitchen cabinets, we decided to gut the kitchen and install new cabinets, countertops, and tile.
September 2021, the hot water tank sprang a leak causing damage to the bathroom, kitchen, laundry, and hallway. All the lower cabinets in the kitchen were taken out along with the granite countertops. Sheetrock was replaced 4 foot up the wall in all these areas. Tile had to be redone in the bathroom and LVT was installed in the laundry room.
